The HCI Faculty Search Committee is in the process of narrowing the pool of applicants down to the top four to be brought in for interviews in March.
The proposal to establish a non-thesis MS program was approved, with the creative component option. We will request that a capstone course replace the creative component to satisfy the demand from off-campus students. The plan now is to have this course developed beginning this summer using funding from the PappaJohn Center and HCI with an HCI Graduate student working for one year beginning this summer. Brian Mennecke would like to be involved in the creation of this course.
It was determined that fellowship candidates should be PhD candidates and from outside of Iowa State. The Graduate College has given us funding for one fellowship and we will request funding for a second fellowship. Pam will follow up with faculty to be sure that they will have the funding to support these students after year one.
Jim Oliver asked if there was interest in submitting another IGERT Proposal. He will send an email to all HCI faculty inviting them for a brainstorming session to discuss this further. The initial proposal is due soon, with only four accepted from one institution.
The meeting ended before the committee was able to discuss the curriculum. An extra meeting will be scheduled on Wednesday, February 27 at noon in the VRAC Conference Room to discuss the HCI curriculum.
