Financial Assistance

All students accepted into the HCI program will receive a half-time graduate assistantship. Graduate assistants with an appointment of one-quarter time or more are assessed resident tuition for each term they have an assistantship. Spouses of graduate assistants are also assessed tuition at the resident rate.

Graduate College Scholarship

Graduate assistants who are on appointment for at least 3 months during each semester and 6 weeks during the summer, receive a Graduate College Scholarship for a portion of resident tuition (unless you are on restricted admission or academic probation, or you hold a fellowship or traineeship that provides funds for tuition and fee payment). For those admitted to the MS program, a 50% tuition scholarship is provided.  For those admitted to the PhD program, a 100% tuition scholarship is provided.

PACE Awards

The Graduate College sponsors the Premium for Academic Excellence award program for new graduate students with outstanding academic records. This award is equivalent to half of the resident tuition fees and may extend over a one or two year period. The HCI Admissions Committee nominates candidates. You need not be on a graduate assistantship to be nominated for a PACE award.

Information about other types of financial assistance available to graduate students can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office, Beardshear Hall (515-294-2223).

Computer Fee Reduction

Graduate assistants are assessed half of the required computer fee for the academic year.

Health Insurance

Graduate assistants receive single student health insurance coverage, which includes a prescription drug plan at no charge. (Additional coverage for a spouse, children, and dental is available for additional premiums.) More information about Health and Dental Insurance can be found at http://www.grad-college.iastate.edu/finance/healthinsurance.html.
