HCI Course - Assignment 1: Technology Documentary

In the style of the 1968 Engelbart demonstration, create a 1-3 minute video to explain a task that you perform with a modern technology. Imagine you are giving a presentation to a group of novices about how your chosen technology can be used. A group of future technologists, searching for 50 year old artifacts of this technology, will add your video to the Computer History Museum.

Objective

The objective of the assignment is to get you thinking about how to explain, in a step-by-step manner and in focused detail, how a technology is used. As you know, once we learn how to use a technology, many of the steps needed to accomplish our goals become so automatic that we don’t even think about them anymore. This focused mind-set will prepare you for the next two assignments (web redesign and usability testing).

Resources

Each group will need video equipment and production software. If you don’t have a laptop with you, there are computers in Howe Hall you can use or you can use the multimedia production stations at the library.
