Use your ISU NetID and password used to access all REU and VRAC resources. These resources include logging into your workstations in the pod area and elsewhere in the lab area.
A dedicated file folder has been setup for the REU program. Use this space to save all your group related files. On Windows workstations, the shared drive space can be accessed at:
X:\users\reu\ (X: drive is available when using the REU pod machines)
\\samba.vrac.iastate.edu\REU (this works from any machine on campus or connected through the VPN)
To make it simple, let us call this space as the 'X drive'
On the X drive, folders indicating your ISU NetID will be available. Files and folders created by, say a user 'vkk2' should be saved in 'X:\users\reu\vkk2'. Please respect others' privacy, and do not attempt to view or edit or delete files that do not belong to you, unless you have permission from the person that created the file.
On Linux workstations, your shared reu drive will be available at: /home/users/
Individual User space
On Windows Workstations, your individual user space is available on the 'H' drive. Files created on this drive are writable only by you but readable by others.
This drive will be wiped out immediately after you leave ISU. So, please do not use this drive to save files related to your coursework or projects.
On Linux workstations, your individual user space can be accessed via: /home/users/
VPN - Cisco Anywhere Connect
Allows you to access resources as if you were on-campus.
Allows access to the REU Group Share from off-campus.
Simple to install, simply visit the page http://vpn.iastate.edu and follow the instructions.
NOTE1: You would only need to activate the CiscoAnywhere VPN connection when off campus.
NOTE2: To access your 'X Drive' off-campus via VPN, you will need to connect to: \\samba.vrac.iastate.edu\REU. You may choose to assign a drive letter on your computer as needed.
Printing
All workstations in the REU pod area are configured to use the Dell 5110cn color printer downstairs and upstairs. 'vrac_downstairs' is the printer nearest to you.
Network printing is available via Dell 5110cn. You can use instructions on the following site to configure it to print files from your own laptop.
There are five projectors in the REU pod area. The projectors can be operated by pressing the round power button.
Each pod seats three people and one computer from each pod is connected to a projector. Your desktop monitor is connected via a black DVI cable to the CPU. If there is a white DVI cable that is plugged in along with the monitor DVI, that machine is the one hooked up to the projector.
