The Past....To be Read in the Future

~~I'm writing this here because I figure no one will actually scroll down the entire page to read it. This is my impression at the start of Week 2- on June 2. I like to write these because its so interesting to read my initial impressions of an experience once it's all said and done. ~~ I stand on the end of the pool. Feet positioned so that exactly half of each big toe hangs off the edge, hangs over the vast blueness of the deep, reassuredly fastened to dry ground by its nine neighbors. The pool, so calm, so inviting. Laughter floats over the expanse, toddlers on the other side, the shallow end, splashing happily with their moms. I remember the splashing. Would I even make a splash in the silky smooth surface. I shift, raising a hand to absently scratch my arm. I hear a reassuring plastic squeal and my waterwings rub together. Everything is all right with waterwings. I take a deep breath, ready to boldly plunge into the seemingly endless pit of water. I have my waterwings, everything will be okay. Hissssss, I feel a disconcerting loss of pressure on one arm. Hisssss now the other--my waterwings are deflating! I whirl around to see the swimming coach, safety pins pinched in his fingers, the weapons of my destruction glinting evilly in the sunlight reflected off the pool. My brain struggled to adjust--then I was flying through the air! Poolside, land, dry ground, growing smaller and smaller as I hurtled away from the edge, the blue of the water, so blue, so close. I did splash. "SWIM!" came the yell from the poolside. Trying... I swallow a mouthful of water. Curiously as tasteless as the colorless kind. I swish my arms around in circles, just like the nice lady in the swimming demonstration. My waterwings sag uselessly in the water, deflated, bereft of any power. I realize my nose is underwater when I inhale a burning surge of chlorine. Coughing and choking my eyes water up, I can't see or breath. "SWIM!!" comes the yell again. Trying...
