Student Performance (4:00pm)

Excerpts from: Assisted Living 2

Assisted Living 2 is a collaboration between Valerie Williams, director of the Co'Motion Dance Company, and Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira, Associate Professor in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at Iowa State University. Dancers wear a network of wireless sensors to interact with graphics, music, and each other to create a unique dance performance in which all elements are dynamic and ever-changing. The control the dancers have over the music and the visuals through the sensors reflects how all the different performance components assist each other to create a greater experience for dancers and audience. Taking advantage of the interactive bond between dancers and their supporting environment, the performance will include an improvisation segment in which live musicians and dancers will create a new visual space for the audience. The audience will be wearing 3D stereo glasses as the visuals will be projected with depth to create the illusion of virtual props around the dancers.

Assisted Living 2 team:
Co'Motion Dance Theater: Valerie Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Ben Rethmeier
Virtual Reality Applications Center: Carolina Cruz-Neira, Yifei Wang, Lew Hill, Jonathan Gandrud, Romeu Bessa
